Circular Chemistry by Nature

Transforming residuals into bio-based chemicals

Nature’s Principles is revolutionizing lactate fermentation by utilizing side streams enabling more circular production of lactic acid.

Lactic acid as a chemical

Although related to milk, lactate is actually produced by microorganisms that ferment carbohydrates like sugar. When these friendly bacteria are in their optimum environment, they are very happy and create greatly beneficial molecules such as lactates.

Lactic acid is a promising molecule, with potential to replace traditional chemicals in the new economy due to, among other reasons its versatility.

It is well know as a building block for bioplastics (PLA), but also widely used in food products as a healthy and biodegradable preservative, as flavoring agent in animal feed and other industrial uses such as bio-based biodegradable chemical solvents and natural disinfectants.

Technology Services

Elevate your production capabilities with our cutting-edge tech services tailored for large-scale lactic acid production from advanced 2G feedstock. We specialize in developing fermentation technologies that enable the transformation of diverse feedstocks, ranging from traditional sources like corn, sugar beet, and sugar cane to sustainable alternatives like waste cellulose, lignocellulose, inulin, or starch-based residuals.

Because our novel, patented and scalable fermentation platform technology is feedstock agnostic and application agnostic, we are able to develop tailor-made lactic acid (and derivatives) production systems for specific needs.

Challenge us with your design questions, and let us collaborate to create customized solutions across upstream, fermentation, and downstream processing steps.

Residual stream valorization

Are you a waste/residual stream owner seeking to maximize the value of your resources?

Our expertise lies in redefining the potential of residual streams, providing sustainable pathways for increased value. Whether you manage waste cellulose, or other starch-based residuals, our technologies can transform these streams into valuable products, contributing to a circular economy.

Collaborate with us to uncover the untapped potential within your residual streams and embark on a journey towards enhanced sustainability and economic value.

About Us

Nature's Principles began as a PhD project at Delft University of Technology, using mixed culture fermentation and Principles of Nature to make microorganisms productive without genetic engineering. Now in pilot scale production, the company aims to make bio-based chemicals viable and circular.
